What you maybe starting to see on others is the fact that what gels do is bond hairs together (duh you knew this already) but it also tends to have them stick to the scalp. So that when the hair is hard it gets flattened and pushed toward the scalp which can make it look like there are thin spots or make thinning spots look worse. This is why things like Rogaine is a foam, its lighter and you still get hold.
